Rain embarked on a long journey, flying tirelessly for several hours toward the distant mountains that stood on the horizon. The path was marred by a desolate landscape—scattered with lifeless trees and seemingly endless expanses of tall grass, a haunting testament to the aftermath of some destruction.
Despite the urgency to reach his destination, Rain hesitated, analyzing the landscape in search of any familiar markers that might confirm his presence on Earth. However, despite his vigilant observation, he found no discernible signs that could unequivocally establish his location.
"This could be a problem..." Rain thought.
As Rain approached the looming mountains on the horizon, he couldn't shake off a lingering sense of unease. Though he lacked expertise in geography, something about the mountains struck him as peculiar.
The peaks appeared unmistakably mountainous in shape and structure, yet their appearance raised suspicions. Moreover, the surrounding terrain seemed unnaturally disturbed, as if the land had been carved out or devoured, creating deep recesses encircling the bases of these peaks.
This abnormal alteration in the landscape further heightened Rain's sense of uncertainty about the authenticity of these mountains.
In the end, Rain approached the mountains and then used his earth magic to split the ground... he couldn't sense anything inside those places, but as he opened them, he eventually found something.
The rarity of encountering another reincarnator like himself, such as the demon god, further reinforced his belief. Such occurrences were evidently rare too, prompting Rain to confirm the peculiar and unconventional nature of his journey after death.
"... This is curious, but my main goal is to return to my family," Rain thought. "I can think about this later."
Rain checked the ceiling again and confirmed that he didn't find any weak spots on that barrier... it was really troublesome. It looked like Rain would have to waste a long time solving another problem as well since it was unlikely that he would find help there... in such an environment, Rain didn't find any signs of insects or animals, it was unlikely that he would find humans.
The layer of earth acting as a barrier between the first and second layers was remarkably robust, weaker though if compared to the strength displayed by the meteor in a short burst of power.
Rain recognized that sheer force or brute strength could potentially harm it. However, Rain was wary of adopting this approach, as forcibly breaching it might draw attention to his presence, alerting the dragon god to his survival. Hence, he contemplated alternative strategies to cross this obstacle without attracting unwanted attention.
"I guess expecting to find some hole in a barrier that has been around for at least fifty thousand of years was pretty naive on my party," Rain rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "My options right now are to learn Teleport or open a hole in it with sheer strength. I know that Terra and Seara are alive, so the others must have survived... I don't have to rush it all that much and make mistakes."
There was also the fact that the Greedy Vows didn't make Rain go insane, so that was another confirmation... after thinking for a while, Rain couldn't help but assume that he had to experiment with his mental domain and see it if he could affect the real world. If that was possible, he would be able to create a field around him that could weaken the effects of the barrier above.
In the end, it wasn't hard for Rain to create the field and then negate the effects of the system to the extent that he couldn't see the status screen. Moreover, it didn't consume as much mana as he was expecting when the field was only around his body. Now he just had to keep trying and improve it to face the effects of the paths system further. That would be the first real step.@@@@
