Chapter 1967 - 1940: The Qiu Family’s Ambition
This matter has been a point of curiosity and confusion in Qiu Tianrui’s heart. He wonders what exactly happened between his sister and Lu Tianxing at Jingxin Tea House that caused such a significant change in his sister’s attitude toward Lu Tianxing. He had never seen his sister show such a complex expression to any other man before; Lu Tianxing was the first.
Qiu Tianrui wanted to ask Qiu Yingrong about what happened at Jingxin Tea House back then, but every time he tried to ask, Qiu Yingrong remained silent, leaving Qiu Tianrui feeling helpless, yet powerless.
Taking a deep breath, Qiu Tianrui looked at Lu Tianxing and said, "Mr. Lu, since you’ve mentioned it, today we’ll follow Weiwei’s suggestion and skip the alcohol."
Saying that, Qiu Tianrui placed the wine in his hand aside and picked up the beverage brought by the waiter, handed a cup to Lu Tianxing, and said, "Mr. Lu, today I, Qiu Tianrui, will drink this beverage as a replacement for wine, and toast to Mr. Lu."
"Young Master Qiu, no need for the courtesy."
Lu Tianxing smiled faintly, clinked the beverage bottle with Qiu Tianrui’s, and took a sip.
"Mr. Lu, please enjoy some food."
Qiu Tianrui gestured invitingly again, and without further pleasantries, he began to chat casually with Lu Tianxing while having the meal.
Of course, they weren’t discussing affairs in Eagle Country but rather some domestic matters, like when Lu Tianxing might visit the Qiu Family to formalize adopting Lingling as his goddaughter.
Meanwhile, Lingling sat obediently beside Lu Tianxing, sipping her drink and eating the food Lu Tianxing served her, her face radiant with happiness.
Qiu Yingrong sat silently beside them, eating elegantly, with a faint smile on her face the whole time. But if you look closely into her eyes, you might sense that they harbor untold stories.
The atmosphere in the private room was harmonious, and no one brought up any unpleasant topics. Qiu Tianrui wisely refrained from asking Lu Tianxing about what really happened between him and his sister or about his future plans, engaging only in casual conversation instead.
At this moment, Lingling, who had been sitting quietly, suddenly started fidgeting in her chair, her face slowly turning a shade of red.
"What’s wrong, Lingling?" Lu Tianxing noticed the change first and immediately leaned down to speak.
"Dad, I need to go to the bathroom," Lingling whispered in Lu Tianxing’s ear.
Lu Tianxing was slightly stunned upon hearing Lingling’s words, then he smiled and said, "Then Daddy will take you to the restroom."
"Tianxing, you stay here and chat with Tianrui. I’ll accompany Lingling," Qiu Yingrong suddenly suggested.
As she spoke, Qiu Yingrong stood up and walked over to Lingling.
"Dad, I’ll be right back, don’t sneak any drinks, or I won’t talk to you, not for a week, no, for an hour," Lingling warned, jumping off her chair like a little adult.
"Don’t worry, Daddy definitely won’t drink."
Lu Tianxing chuckled dotingly and watched as Qiu Yingrong and Lingling left before turning to Qiu Tianrui, slowly saying, "Young Master Qiu, I presume your invitation to dinner isn’t just about casual conversation."
Qiu Tianrui was about to put a piece of meat in his mouth but paused and put down his chopsticks after hearing Lu Tianxing’s words. He smiled bitterly and said, "Mr. Lu, you certainly can’t be fooled. Besides congratulating you on your recovery, I wanted to ask about your plans for formally adopting Lingling as your goddaughter."
Lu Tianxing didn’t reply immediately but took some food with his chopsticks, chewed attentively, then slowly said, "Young Master Qiu, I wonder if this question comes from you or your grandfather."
"Mr. Lu, does that matter?" Qiu Tianrui smiled at Lu Tianxing.
"Of course, it’s not important."
Lu Tianxing replied briefly, "Whether the question comes from your grandfather or you, it doesn’t matter to me. Lingling is a delightful child, and it doesn’t matter when I formally adopt her as my goddaughter. But Young Master Qiu, are you sure your Qiu Family wants to proceed this way?"
With that, Lu Tianxing gave Qiu Tianrui a meaningful look and said in a calm tone, "I’ve made a lot of enemies recently, as you might have heard. Aren’t you worried those forces I’ve offended will take it out on the Qiu Family? Do you think your Qiu Family can withstand that?"
Listening to Lu Tianxing, Qiu Tianrui’s expression remained unchanged, as if he had expected Lu Tianxing to say this.
"Mr. Lu, do you think the Qiu Family has any other choice?"
Qiu Tianrui looked at Lu Tianxing and said, "Everyone on Qin Island knows that Lingling is your daughter and you’re her father. Even if we vehemently deny it, Mr. Lu, do you think anyone will believe us? Moreover, Mr. Lu, you should know the saying, ’Seek wealth in risk.’ While the Qiu Family is currently a prominent family on Qin Island, we aren’t satisfied with only being a notable family here; we aspire to become one of China’s top families, one that can shake the country with a sneeze."
At this point, a hint of ambition flickered on Qiu Tianrui’s face. The Qiu Family had previously had no choice but to remain on Qin Island. Now given the chance to soar, who would choose to stay in a small pond?
Furthermore, the Qiu Family already has ties with Lu Tianxing—no matter the outcome, there are only two paths ahead. First, wait for destruction; if something happens to Lu Tianxing, the Qiu Family will face a devastating blow, even if they join other families against him, the result would be unchanged, simply the Qiu Family wouldn’t be destroyed alongside Lu Tianxing.
The second path is to follow Lu Tianxing into the abyss, gamble everything on this, and if successful, the Qiu Family would become a top family in China.
Although Lu Tianxing has stirred up turmoil worldwide this time, and seems beset by enemies, appearing to be a decayed chess piece teetering on the brink of disaster, ready to be blown into the abyss by a fierce gale.
