Chapter 23 Final Exam
Chapter 23 Final Exam
Time flies, and several months have passed in the blink of an eye.
Fafnir is eight years old, and his first semester at grammar school is coming to an end.
Monday morning was the final exam for the "Introduction to Spirituality" course, and Fafnir, who was auditing the class, was also present.
"Students, the written test will now begin."
After seeing the exam paper, Fafner felt the questions were quite easy; they were nothing more than some theoretical knowledge from the textbook.
For example, these:
"Briefly describe the concept of the spirit world," "Please list five first-order spells and write out their casting steps in detail"...
An hour later, Mr. Victor collected the written test papers.
"Students, please proceed one by one according to your student ID number. The practical exam is now beginning."
One by one, the students whose student numbers were called stood up from their seats and came to Victor's side to await instructions.
Fafner was naturally the last candidate.
It was still early, so he sat in a seat near the front and watched as the students on the podium were asked to perform a fireball spell as part of their exam.
Some students seemed unskilled. Fafnir, through his spiritual vision, saw that the spiritual construction of several students' fireball spells was not yet complete, let alone the ability to release it.
"Next up, auditor Fafnir Beckett."
"Hello, Mr. Victor!" Fafnir walked calmly to the podium.
"Little Fafnir, hello there. Come on, cast a fireball on me. Let's begin."
"OK."
Meditation, mantras, and construction complete.
In a very short time,
"boom--"
The fireball was released instantly, dazzling and intensely hot.
Mr. Victor casually waved his hand, and the fireball vanished instantly.
Victor wrote a score of five in the column for Fafnir's name on the form.
"Fantastic, my little Fafnir," Mr. Victor nodded in satisfaction. "Perfect, fantastic, a flawless execution. I never expected it to be so skillful and lethal."
Little Fafnir, keep up the good work on your bookkeeping exam this afternoon.
……
Fafnir felt even more relaxed during the final exam for the bookkeeping course, since not only was the "ledger" column on his panel full, but he had also dealt with this kind of work in his previous life.
There are only two major questions:
"Based on the question, please compile a list of a merchant's periodic assets and calculate his property tax."
Please prepare this balance sheet based on the given information.
Several short answer questions:
List the tariffs for several categories of important goods (the tariff rates must conform to the tariff rate book)
Advantages of double-entry bookkeeping
It's really simple, Fafnir found it very easy.
Finally, here's a thought-provoking question:
"A critique of the Nunns Empire's guardianship and purchasing power."
It's not too difficult.
Soon, Fafnir handed in his paper ahead of schedule and said goodbye to Mr. Victor.
……
"Fafner, how was your day?" Allen asked.
"Not bad," Fafner replied with a smile, in a good mood after finishing two exams today. "I was taking exams today..."
I think you'll soon be able to sit in on classes too.
Martha and Alan had finished their studies and work for the day and were chatting idly with Fafnir in their dormitory.
"Thank you, Fafnir, thank you so much," Martha said sincerely. "You've taught us to read almost every day for the past five months of the semester. It's been such a great help to you."
"It's okay, we can help each other out."
"Now, Allen and I can write and read general children's books relatively fluently. With a little more effort, we'll move towards the goal of reading and writing newspapers and magazines!"
Martha paused for a moment, then asked, "Fafner, what are you planning to do next?"
"This semester is over, are we going back to work at Lorraine Manor again...?"
Martha's mood turned slightly somber as she spoke: "I don't want to, I don't want to go back to Lorraine Manor. It's tiring there and there's no pay."
Here, we receive a monthly stipend of 50 copper coins. This semester, we've each received a stipend worth a whole silver shield.
"Fafner, thank you so much for your help this semester," Allen said earnestly.
"I think Martha and I have developed some self-learning abilities. Next semester, you will have more time and won't have to waste time on Martha and me learning to read. I'm so sorry to have taken up your time this semester."
I want to learn meditation next semester too. Fafnir, you're amazing, you're our role model, you know so much.
"It's alright, you're welcome."
However, since Fafner added a "Creditors" section to his "ledger" panel a few months ago, there has been no further activity.
Fafnir thought that perhaps things would only change after Martha and Allen had experienced spirituality.
"Martha, perhaps we don't need to go back. I'll consult Mr. Victor; maybe he can tell us what we can do during this month-long vacation," Fafnir said.
"Keep it up, Alan, Martha. I think your parents must have gone through a lot of trouble to send you here to do volunteer work." Fafnir only knew from his dream that their parents were a miner and a laundry maid.
"Yes, six gold pounds," Martha said. "That might be the money they've saved up their whole lives. When our family came to the Holy Kingdom of the Elves..."
That small house was their family's only property in the Narns Empire, and it too was sold off.
Perhaps they've scraped together their entire lives' worth of money just to find an opportunity for me and Allen... an opportunity that seems so far-fetched.
Allen continued, "They signed a 30-year employment agreement, and they don't know if they'll ever be able to return to their homeland."
The three of them were silent for a short while.
"Fafner, I want to learn from you too. I will try meditation. I will borrow some books from the library and take a look. Next semester, I will choose the course 'Basic Meditation'." Martha made up her mind.
"Keep going, I believe in you! Maybe I can help you too."
……
"Hello, Mr. Victor!"
Fafnir went up to the second floor of the dormitory building and entered Mr. Victor's room, which he had not been to this semester.
"Please sit down, Fafnir," Victor said, pulling up a chair. "I never expected you to get a perfect score on your bookkeeping test. You really make me happy."
"By the way, what brings you here?"
"Thank you... Hello Mr. Victor, I'd like to ask, the school holiday is starting soon, a month away. Do Martha, Allen, and I need to go back to Lorraine Manor? Or can we stay here?"
"Please do as you wish, but the cafeteria will be closed for a month, and your subsidies will be suspended, since you won't be working during the holiday."
By the way, the school library is always open.
Mr. Victor thought for a moment and asked, "Since school is about to be out for break anyway, I can give you a temporary job. I wonder if you'd be willing to do it?"
