Chapter 1408: A Trick On Heaven

Chapter 1408: A Trick On Heaven

Chapter 1408: A Trick On Heaven As Michael fell to one knee, his gaze drifted to the side — straight toward Raphael’s lifeless corpse.

The sight hit him like a physical blow. His brother — his own blood — lay there, chest split open, the core missing. The weight of it crushed something deep inside Michael’s mind. His resistance crumbled further. Tears welled up in the archangel’s eyes, golden and bright, before sliding down his cheeks.

He had lost everything in a single moment.

Gabriel looked down at him with a mocking, almost pitying gaze. Then he casually kicked Michael in the chest, sending the once-mighty archangel sprawling backward onto the ground.

Turning away from his fallen brother, Gabriel faced the rest of the angel host.

"BOW," he commanded again, voice ringing with new authority.

This time, the angels obeyed. One by one, wings folding, heads lowering, the entire heavenly host dropped to their knees before him. The hatred in their eyes remained, but fear and the overwhelming pressure of his stolen power forced their bodies down.

Gabriel’s lips curved into a satisfied smile. He finally turned toward the human side of the arena.

"Now you," he said, voice dripping with arrogance. "All of you vermin — bow."

Neither Father Black nor any member of the Lenny royal family moved.

The hundred young warriors, the gods, even the children simply stared at him. Some with confusion, some with open disdain.

Then little Elara, still sitting on Demeter’s lap, tilted her head and spoke in her clear, piping voice:

"Daddy... are all angels that dumb?"

The words hung in the air.

Father Black turned to his daughter with a fond smile and replied calmly, "Only the backstabbing ones."

Something snapped inside Gabriel’s head. Rage surged through him like wildfire. His stolen power flared violently around his body, wings blazing with corrupted golden light.

"Just because I planned with you to defeat the angels does not mean you are not still vermin!" he snarled.

With power blazing high and hard, Gabriel rushed straight toward Father Black and the humans gathered on the platform.

He was only a few feet away when an invisible wall suddenly materialized out of thin air, stopping him cold.

Gabriel slammed into it with a heavy thud. He stepped back, eyes narrowing as he looked up.

Floating above them was the massive contract monolith — the same one that had governed the entire tournament from the beginning. Its runes glowed brightly, enforcing the old agreement.

Gabriel frowned. "What is the meaning of this?"

Kanada stepped forward, her terrifying holy aura steady as she spoke.

"Have you forgotten the terms?" she asked coolly. "The contract states that if we win the tournament, angels will never be able to touch another human life again. And whether we desired it or not, you decided to rebel against your own kind in the middle of the match... and killed a participating angel."

She paused, letting the words sink in.

"Meaning that, by default, you lose."

Kanada’s lips curved into a small, cold smile.

"Earth wins."

Gabriel’s face twisted in disbelief.

"No..." he muttered, voice cracking. "No... no... NO!"

The massive contract monolith above them began to grow larger and larger, its runes glowing with an ominous crimson light. It expanded rapidly, engulfing the angels as if trying to swallow their very bodies. The heavenly host struggled desperately — wings flapping, auras flaring — but it was useless. The contract, made under the oath of a Morningstar, could not be broken.

Alexander stepped forward, his voice calm and firm.

"According to the agreement, Earth may choose angels that would fight with us against Lucifer. However... we gladly decline the offer."

Gabriel’s eyes widened in horror as the realization finally hit him.

Back when he had met Father Black in secret to backstabbing his brother, he was surprised yo know that the Regent didn’t ask for anything in return.

Back then, Gabriel had thought that Father Black was simply a desperate man that needed help and woukd do anything to win against the invaders of his home.

And Gabriel’s hunger for power made him fail to see the big picture.

One by one, the angels began disappearing. Their bodies glowed with forced light before they were yanked upward, pulled back to Heaven against their will. Screams of protest filled the arena, but none could resist.

Gabriel kept repeating, "No... this is not how it was supposed to end! Things were not supposed to end this way!"

But the contract’s runes had already surrounded his body, wrapping around him like chains, taking him hostage. No matter how loudly he screamed or how violently he struggled, it was no use.

At that moment, Alexander waved his hand casually.

Michael’s sword — still in Gabriel’s grip — suddenly flew out of his hands and shot straight toward Alexander.

Gabriel’s eyes widened in pure shock.

"How...?"

What he did not know was that when Alexander had handed him the sword earlier, he had secretly smeared some of his own blood on it.

Alexander opened his mouth slightly, revealing a glowing royal emblem on his tongue — the mark of the Lenny Royal Family. He had been promoted to a core member, and the power he inherited was one Lenny had not used in a long time.

Greed.

Right now, he had used that power to control his blood and call the sword back to its rightful side.

Without Michael’s holy sword in his possession, Gabriel’s stolen power collapsed instantly. His body glowed brightly as the contract pulled him upward.

"No! This can’t be—!"

His scream was cut short as he vanished, forcibly returned to Heaven.

Michael watched the entire scene in silence. The realization dawned on him — now, without Gabriel’s interference, he could fight and win against his treacherous brother.

He turned to Father Black, voice heavy with emotion.

"I, Michael, vow to never forget this favor."

He waved his hand once. The scabbard of his sword flew through the air and landed in Alexander’s grasp.

Then, without another word, Michael disappeared as well, pulled back to Heaven.

In this manner — through trickery, betrayal, and a perfectly timed contract — all the angels were sent back.

The battlefield fell silent.

Earth had won.
